In today’s media-driven world of fast-paced information saturation, people are losing their ability to think critically about the issues of the day. In addition, confusion abounds in our culture regarding patriotism and love of country. While some possess a fashionable disdain for their nation, others believe that America can do no wrong. Neither position is a balanced one. Is there a better way? These ideas are explored in A Reasoned Patriotism: Critical Thinking and Civic Duty in an Age of Polarization.

Dawn Duran's background as a college athlete and strength and conditioning specialist led her to become a physical therapist. She quickly learned that she had a passion for teaching, and that led her to the role of adjunct professor in Health Sciences. Once she began to homeschool her sons, Dawn used her experience in the field of health and fitness to create Swedish Drill Revisited, which is an adaptation of a forgotten form of physical education now being implemented in many homeschool as well as school settings.

Dawn Duran has been applying Charlotte Mason’s philosophy of education in her home and with community groups since first encountering the method in 2012. Founder of the Charlotte Mason Maryland homeschooling community, Dawn facilitates classes in the study of Plutarch, logic, and debate, as well as in the reading and performance of Shakespeare plays. She has a particular interest in history and citizenship.

Dawn is also co-host of The New Mason Jar podcast and a speaker and writer whose work has been featured in American Essence and Common Place Quarterly.
