John Burroughs

John Burroughs (1837–1921) was an American naturalist from the Catskills of New York, who invented the nature essay, accompanied Muir on expeditions, wrote the biography of Walt Whitman, palled around with Edison, Firestone, Ford and Roosevelt, and was active in the conservation movement in the United States.
