Grimms Fairy Tales comprises some 200 stories. The best-known tales include Hansel and Gretel;;Snow White; Little Red Riding Hood; Sleeping Beauty; Tom Thumb; Rapunzel; The Golden Goose; Rumpelstiltskin. From the land of fantastical castles, vast lakes and deep forests, the Brothers Grimm collected a treasury of enchanting folk and fairy stories full of giants and dwarfs, witches and princesses, magical beasts and cunning children. All hold a timeless magic which has enthralled children for centuries. They had started collecting fairy tales in the hope of discovering some essential truths about the cultural heritage of the common people. During the following years, the brothers began editing the tales to make them more child friendly, opening up an obvious market.

The Brothers Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, were two German folklorists and linguists who famously collected and published folklore. The fairy tales they collected were part of a rich oral tradition - passed down from generation to generation and were in danger of being lost. Between 1812 and 1857 their first collection was revised and republished many times, growing from 86 stories to more than 211. The popularity of the Grimms' collected folktales has only grown since then. Jacob Ludwig Karl Grimm and Wilhelm Carl Grimm were born on 4 January 1785 and 24 February 1786, respectively, in Hanau in the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel.
