Three of his short stories won O. Henry Prizes, and in 1980 he received the Robert Kirsch Award from the \u003ci\u003eLos Angeles Times \u003c\/i\u003efor his lifetime literary achievements.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eMary Stegner\u003c\/b\u003e was the wife of Wallace Stegner and his constant assistant, as well as a violinist with the Stanford Symphony Orchestra. She was Wallace's coeditor for \u003ci\u003eGreat American Short Stories\u003c\/i\u003e and wrote the afterword for his book \u003ci\u003eRemembering Laughter\u003c\/i\u003e.
